For tunnel projects in densely populated areas and cities, limiting nuisance atground level is a real challenge. The tunneltechnology itself and execution techniques for entrances and departure and arrivalpits must be adapted to the situation and must limit nuisance to a minimum. The lack of space requires designing and applying innovative techniques! Often compensatory measures are taken with thorough monitoring and follow-up.

This workshop gives a broad overview of recent projects of mechanized tunnels or with similar techniques by a number of different presentations and explains the current innovations in these techniques. Engineering offices, contractors and consulting engineers share their expertise and hope to contribute to a deeper and broader knowledge of mechanized tunnelling in urban context.
