#worldtunnelday & jobsite visit Tangent (Mechelen) - ACTIVITY REPORT

On Friday, 3 December, around 30 members of our association visited the Tangent project. Thanks to the very expert explanation of arch. Bruno De Backer and Rudy Van Camp (Mechelen in Beweging), we were given a complete overview of the urban development project for the area around the station in Mechelen.

Mechelen in Beweging (Mechelen in Motion) is a large-scale and necessary project to control future mobility flows in and around the station district.

In 2012, work began on the station project in Mechelen. A cooperation agreement was concluded between the NMBS, Infrabel, De Lijn, the city of Mechelen and the Flemish government. Spread over several years, there will be a new double track on the current Brussels-Antwerp railway line, a new access road between Brusselsesteenweg and Douaneplein and a car tunnel between Leuvensesteenweg and the station. Furthermore, the current train and bus station will be completely rebuilt, providing excellent accommodations and connections for cyclists and pedestrians.

At the same time, the date of our visit coincided with the well-known feast of Saint Barbara, also known as #worldtunnelday. We took this opportunity to surprise our members with a pleasant finale.

ABTUS-BVOTS is also planning interesting site visits in Belgium and abroad in 2022. If you want to participate, please become a member of our association!
